Plan your scoping processes

This is where you will figure out how to define and validate the scope of your project. In the scope management process you define your approach to find out what work you will do and what is outside the scope. All other processes in the Scope Management knowledge areas are defined and described in this document. It is the blueprint that you will use for everything else you will do to manage the scope of your project.

There are two outcomes of the scope management process: the scope management plan and the requirements management plan. Both help you define the scope of your project and make sure that you and your team focus only on the work that will help you meet the needs of your customers.

The scope management plan keeps you informed by detailing the processes you and your team will follow when documenting your scope, figure out your work breakdown structures and validate and control your scope for the rest of the project.

The requirements management plan describes the process by which you will collect requirements and how you will handle them once they are written down.

2.2.1 MP4PM Scope Management Plan

The primary purpose of this process is twofold: to write the scope management plan and to develop the requirements management plan.

The scope management plan is a planning tool that documents how the project team will go about defining project scope, how changes to scope will be maintained and controlled, and how project scope will be validated.

The requirements management plan addresses analyzing, documenting, and managing the project requirements.
